What Are Artifacts and How Do I Get Them?
Artifacts are objects in the game which can help you in many ways. Some give credits, planet size, or other materials. Others can be used against your enemies and take Money. You may obtain them through digging on planets.

How Do I Use Artifacts and What Do They Do?
You can use Artifacts by going to the Command screen, clicking Artifacts, and clicking on the name of the Artifact which you intend to use, and then typing in the name of the Empire which you want to use it against. If you keep the box blank, you will use an Artifact on yourself.. Artifacts do many things such as giving money, taking away money, giving planets land, etc.

How do I join a Federation?
You may join a Federation by clicking the Federation tab on top of your screen, clicking "Join Federation," finding the Federation which you wish to join, clicking the name of it, and clicking Apply.
That sends a message to the Federation leard who can then choose to accept you (this isn't guaranteed).

Note: It may take some time as the Federation leader needs to get the request and may not be online at the time you send the request (especially on the slower servers)

I'm in debt what do I do?
iIf you are in Debt, first disban all ships. Then, stop using turns. After doing these steps, sell minerals/goods/food/ore/etc on the Market. You can check your "Income" screen to see if you will make money if you use turns. Sometimes you can dig out of debt just by using turns, although if you are in bad debt it is suggested you dont try this way. If nothing else, you can restart your Empire.

How do I restart my empire?
Go to Options and click on Restart Empire.

If I restart do I loose all my research/credits/ect?
Yes. Restarting is starting your empire all over again. You will lose all Invested turns.

How do I make more money?
Depending on the Race, you make money by making Infrastructure(Buildings) on your Planets. What Infrastructure to build on your planets is described in the Manual also. You can find this information by clicking: Help & Manual, Races, The Race You Wish To See, Then by looking at their Racial Modifier.

What Are The Racial Modifiers?
Racial Modifiers explain how each Race makes its income. Here is an explanation of the Terran Race Modifier:
Race modifiers
Tax from population + 0 %
This means that if they build want to build all population, and make money from Taxes, they would make some money, but it being at +0% Means it is fairly nuetral.
Agriculture yield + 20 %
Agriculture yield is how easy it is for an Race to produce Food by themselves.
Tax from Commercial + 0 %
This means that if they build all commercial they would make money, but the modifier for it is nuetral. This is the main way Terrans are played.
Industry efficiency + 0 %
Industry efficiency is how good the Race can produce Goods.
Demand for goods + 350 %
This is how much money you make if you have goods, instead of not having goods.
Infrastructure Maintenance + 0 %
This is how much it costs to maintenance Infrastructure. In this case, having a - modifier is good.
Plundering colonies - 50 %
This is how much money you get from Plundering a colony, depending on how much the colony is. So if it was x amount you would minus 50% from it with this modifier.
Mineral Generation + 0 %
Mineral Generation affects your Mineral Income per turn.

Why is my loyalty going down?
There are Four reasons Loyalty goes down: Not enough Food to feed your Population, You are a Slave and your Master is Punishing you, An Artifact which causes Loyalty to go down, Or there is also a bug which causes Loyalty to go down.

Do I need food?
EYes, you need Food to feed your Population. If you do not have Food, your population will begin to die. If you keep using turns while you have no Food, your Population will soon be all dead.

How do I play this game?
If you have just started the game, you should first look through this whole manual. Or click here.

Also click here to try the Useful guides section.
Then try playing the game. If you still have problems, you can contact on of the Admins/Guides/Mods by clicking the Link in the top righthand corner which says "Lost Or Need Help? Click Here"

What's the Ancient Alien artifact
If you don't know what it is, I would recommend not researching it.

What Is The Kal-Zul Overmind Project?
The Kal-Zul Overmind Project is also know as the Ultimate Weapon (UW). It has two parts two it, the Kal-Zul Hektar and Kal-Zul Loktar. Once someone builds and completers both, they have to stay alive (With the whole server attacking them) for 48 hours. Then, if not killed, it blows up the universe, taking 90% of your Food, Minerals, Goods, Money Reserves, etc. No research is effected, nor are planets. If the person who blows up the Universe is in your federation, you only loose 66.6..% of your Food, Minerals, etc.

How do I get more ships ?
You can build ships at the Build Ships screen under the Command menu.

For full details click here to take a look at the Research Encyclopedia

Note some research leads to other research and not directly to ships. You need to research the individual ships.

How can I play other races?
You have to finish certain missions to play other races. Once you finish the missions required for a race, you can go to Options, Restart Empire, Choose your race, Put your Password in, and click Confirm! After that you must sign out and back in again, then you should be the race you chose to play as.

Can I play as a Dark Marauder?
No, Dark Marauder is an Unplayable Race.

Can I play as a Kal-Zul?
No, Kal-Zul is an Unplayable Race, except the NPC who tries blowing up the server once a month if no one else does it successfully.

How do counter-attacks work?
When someone attacks you, you get a Counter-Attack on them, that is, an Attack that you can carry out from any Power Rating on the (Unless they are in Damage Protection or Noob Protection.). This lasts for 7 days. Whenever you attack someone (Granted you are not using a Counter) they get a Counter on you.
Counter-attacks remove all power restrictions if you have a counter-attack on someone your allowed to attack them regardless of your power rating. You get one counter-attack per normal or enslave attack on you, you do not get a counter-attack if someone does a counter-attack on you. You have seven days from the time of the attack on you to use the counter-attack, after this time you can only do a normal attack. Counter-attacks do not allow you to attack anyone under damage protection or below 5,000.

My goods are negative, what can I do?
Terrans have a higher demand for goods and it's not practical for them to produce enough goods to satisfy the demands of there population.

How can I make more goods?
Building Industry on your colonies produces goods, they use the Raw Materials generated from Agriculture, make sure you have enough Raw Materials to satisfy the demands of your population. You can also purchase Raw Materials from the Market. Also goods can be purchased from the market.

Goods are sold to your population at 5 credits each. So if the market price is 4 or under and you're not making enough to fill all your populations needs (ie: Terrans) then they are worth purchasing. At 5 you'll just break even no point in purchasing. At 6 or more you'll loose money.
If you are Terran, most buy Goods of the Market and keep their Income up that way. Though, if you want to make Goods, you may make the Industry Infrastructure on your planets.

What is DP?
DP is Damage Protection. You get it by losing 2+ planets, or 40% or more of your Ships PR. In the DP time you can not be attacked. The only way to come out of DP is to wait for the time to expire or to build ships (Excluding Starbases or Scouts). Damage Protection lasts for 24 hours on GC.

How do I go into damage protection?
You can go into damage protection in one of two ways:

1) If you loose 40% or more of your fleet in an attack on your empire
2) If you loose 3 or more colonies in an attack on your empire

What is the d/a next to the empire name?
If there is a D next to the Empire name, it means that Empire is in Damage Protection. The A means it is Active (Online)..

Why is someone under damage protection for xx hours?
If the player is in vacation mode damage protection gets extended for the length of the vacation.

Who is Stephen?
Stephen is, simply put, the complex life-form that made this game.

What is Stephen's email?
Info@spacefed.com

What is stacking?
Stacking is putting together 10 ship types in a certain order to create a 'Fleet' of ships to attack others ships and win more efficiently. These ships combined, if combined right, will beat alot of other ships also. The order of your ships to create a stack, is determined by Power Rating. This is the main way to win battles, to be good at stacking. To learn more about stacking: http://spacefed.com/gc/forum2/i.cfm?p=detail&cid=8&fid=191778

What does range do?
Range determines which Ship attacks first in a Battle. So if the first ship you have in your stack is Ship A, and has 9 range, the other persons first ship in stack is Ship B, and has 8 Range, your ship will attack first.

What do the ship defensive modifiers do?
TShips modifiers determine how good one ship is against another. Every ship has its own modifier.
These are how modifiers are setup:

Energy Attack kills a Negative Energy shield ship.
Kinetic Attack kills a Negative Absorption shield ship.
Chemical Attack kills a Negative Ionized Hull ship.
Missle Attack kills a Negative ECM shield ship.
This is the basis for Stacking against another ship.

What is the best ship?
There is no best ship. Which ship is best to use all depends on which ship you are attacking/defending against. This all depends on Ship Modifiers.

How do I get more turns?

How do a switch servers?
Your current empire can not physically switch servers, but you can sign up to play other servers.

How do I restart my empire?
Go to Options, click on Restart Empire, Choose the Race you wish to restart as, then type in your password and click "Confirm!"

What is clustering?
CWhen an empire begins to reach its colony limit, it can be useful to "cluster" your planets into denser colonies. Note that a colony and a planet are not necessarily the same, as a colony can hold more then one planet. The first colony Cluster you can make is a level 1 or "C1" and it contains 5 planets. The level 2 contains 5 C1s or 25 planets and the C3 contains 5 C2s or 125 planets.

Finally what happens to your colonies when they are combined can be good or bad. All the land on each individual colony is added together to make the new colony's total land (the same is done for available ore, and each infrastructure type). The loyalty of the most unloyal colony in the group of five becomes the loyalty of the new colony (not averaged). You pick one mineral type from one of the original colonies to be produced by the new cluster at 5 times the rate of any one of the original colonies. Note that a C1 produces 5 times the minerals then a single planet and a C3 125 times that of a single planet etc. The final change is that the planets that are put into the cluster do not affect it`s properties. For example a C1 made of all forest planets will not get the +100% bonus to agriculture, but in the same respect clustering 5 high land barren planets will still allow you to grow food on the cluster that they produce. Cs1 have +10% to all stats, C2s have +20% to all etc.

The only races that are different are Viral 106 and Collective. Both races have 4 planets per cluster instead of 5. dViral 106 have "infected" colonies instead of Clusters Colonies. They can infect cluster colonies they steal from other people, but they cannot upgrade them or do anything else with them really. To shrink the number of colonies they have, they have to start with planets, then infect them and start making viral clusters. Similarly Collective have their own cluster type called a Similare. Similares cluster in groups of 4 instead of 5, and go up to level 4 instead of level 3, so the max planet a single colony can hold is 256 instead of 125.

How do I cluster my planets?
Once you have researched the technology go to Projects to cluster your planets.

I've been enslaved, how do I free myself?
Build to 10x your masters PR and go to Command, Slave Empires, Declare Independence!

Does Mining Infrastructure Increase Mineral Production Per Turn?
Mining infrastructure increases how fast you Mine Ore AND how much your Mineral income is.
